FROM LILY HOTCHKISS
ORCA AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS COORDINATOR

Orca offers three separate after-school programs.

Powerful Schools: Offers after school classes on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30pm and 4:30-5:30pm. Classes are available for K-6. All classes (with the exception of Earth Club) charge a small fee that goes to cover costs. Students go directly from class to the lunchroom after school ends and are served a light snack prior to class. If you sign up for a 4:30pm class you will still need to pick up your child after school and bring them back. Powerful Schools is an amazing non-profit based in Southeast Seattle. For more info please go to http://www.powerfulschools.org.

Out of School Time: Out of School Time or OST classes are sponsored by Seattle Park and Recreation, who fund after school classes for middle school students. The classes will vary throughout the year. As our middle school grows, we hope to offer both more classes and transportation home via school bus. All classes are free. Students go directly to the classes where snack is available.

Middle School Athletics: Middles School Athletics are a part of Seattle Public Schools, who fund after school athletics for middle school students. There are three different seasons in a school year –  Fall, Winter and Spring –  with different activities offered each season. All classes are free. Students go directly to the classes where snack is available.

Both our OST and our Athletics programs will offer registration to 4th-6th graders for the 2007-08 school year. Registration forms for both Powerful Schools and our Middle School programs are sent home with students.  You can also pick up forms in the office.

Registration happens on a first come first signed up basis so please get your forms back to school as soon as possible.  Please note that our 6th graders will be given priority in both our OST and Athletics classes.

Classes for the Winter session will begin the week of January 22nd.
