Hi Orcans,

Thanks for making our October PTSA general meeting a huge success.  Our goal was to not only offer an opportunity for community members to gather and share, but provide some insight to the inner workings of our school.

Thank you Principal Ben for providing an overview of the District's enrollment plan and answering some questions. Below is the link to the District's URL that provides more detail on the Assignment plan and also links to the next public meetings.  The next meeting is this Saturday, October 17th, at Mercer Middle school at 10:00am and 1:00pm (2 meetings).  If possible, please cc: me on all correspondence to the District.  The Board is developing a consolidated response to the plan and needs your input.

Thank you Mikala for updating us on the upcoming November 3rd ballot.  The Board is endorsing a "no" vote on Initiative 1033, which if passes,
would significantly impede our state’s ability to recover from the $1.5 billion cut to education funding this year.  See the attached document at the bottom of this page for more details.  Or email Mikala.

Of course the highlight of the night was the introduction of the Race Forum which exposed itself and opened up lines of communication for many new parents. We hope these new families will continue to support future Race Forums, and regular attendees will continue to spread the word about the work ahead.

The video below was shared last night and some great dialogue developed from it.  Also, a documents defining and explaining "Institutional Racism" was passed around.  This is at the bottom of the page as well.

Finally, I too shared a great video.  Some of you wanted the link, so here it is.  I feel that it's very relevant for the times we live in.  enjoy

Thank you again for your attendance and participation
