Orca’s Second Annual Family Math Game Night was a success! On November 8th families, teachers and community members played together, laughed together, and learned math strategies, too. Attendance was robust. More than 120 children signed in, and more than 300 people came to play. Prizes were awarded to Phi Ho’s and Maidi’s classes for drawing the most families. Many thanks to parents who picked up and brought extra children.

We appreciate Blue Highway Games (2203 Queen Anne Ave. North, www.bluehighwaygames.com) who shared their library of games with us. Blue Highway is donating 10% of their game sale proceeds from the evening back to the Orca PTSA. Adam Dysart, our math coach, distributed free card games from the math curriculum. And Explorations in Math representatives Jennifer Gaer and Dave Gardner were there proclaiming, by the way, that Orca hosts THE BEST math nights!

Our biggest thanks go to the 30+ parent volunteers who helped set up, clean up, and teach games. Special gratitude to Elizabeth Rifer, Kelly Warner-King, Mike King, Koichi Kitazumi, Teresa McCann, Sam Reich-Dagnen, Lizabeth Coller, Janna Pekaar, Gavin Coulter, Eve Soffer, Mary Elder, Joyce Cruz, Susan Rasch, Sumam Abraham, Patricia Kelly, Andy Podolske, Beth Scott, Lisa Ondrecjek, T.A.McCann, Rob McCann, David True, Lura Winn, Sarah Hufbauer, Brian Bennink, Amy Fleetwood, Kate Carroll, Don Billen, Margaret Gaines, Sauda Porter, Rod Gleysteen and the wonderful, but anonymous man who kept refilling snack cups!

We’re still in need of parent math champions for some classrooms. E-mail julie@softlabour.com if you’re interested in being a math champion or for a copy of the game list from math night that describes the games we played and the math skills they reinforce.
