November 5, 2007

Dear Families,

Thank you for making last week’s October 31st Celebration so healthy and fun.   It was fabulous to have so many volunteers helping out in the classroom and also so many healthy snacks.   Mr. Ben came by and noticed, “The energy in the room is great!”   I concurred.   J

This week we are wrapping up our literature books.   If your student has not finished their book -- I still suggest they finish it.   It is just so much more satisfying to finish than to give up.    We will start new books next week—so this week is a good week to do an independent choice.    In class, however, we are doing group presentations on the books and then reading about Ecosystems and Living Organisms.

I will be out for the morning tomorrow.   I have a monthly Professional Development Steering Committee   meeting that takes me out.   We have been lucky that Ms. Medoris enjoys half days in our class and the students seem to enjoy being with her.   She is the one who teaches them riddles!   In math we are continuing to develop a variety of strategies to help us in our subtraction problems.   We are also working on problem solving.

Thursday evening is math night from 7-8:30.   It sounds like it will be fun.

The penny harvest is going well.   In the first coup of days we already have colleted over $9.00.   Students from David’s class are running the collection process.   We are keeping graphs of our totals.

I will be calling you if we have not yet scheduled a conference.   Just one week away!

Sincerely,

Laura Grow
