October 29,2007

Dear Families,

October has passed by so quickly.   And students are doing such a fabulous job!

This week we continue our work with Place Value & Data Collection in math, as well as working with doing mental math with the Explorations in Math coach David Gardner.

On Wednesday it is Halloween.   In order to respect families that may not celebrate the holiday and to abide by the districts no junk food rules we will be having a healthy snacks party from 12-1:10 ( IT is early dismissal!)     I will try to set up some station activities and if you would like to come in and help you are welcome to!    Because of the Early Release we are going to do the traditional Orca Skating Party   on February 14th.

If you have not signed up for conferences, please call me, email me, or write me a not about the best time for you!   They will occur primarily on Monday, November 19th on the ½ hour between 1-9pm.   Then on Tuesday the 20th between 10:30-6:00 pm.   I may have some other slots available if these do not work for you… Let me know your preferences.

252-6915 is the class phone number.   lrgrow@seattleschools.org is my email.

This week’s poem is by Christina Rossetti.   We are discussing what Victorian Times were like & who lived during that period the 1800’s.   IF you have any home connections to make that would be fabulous.

Students are seeming engaged by their science terrariums and aquariums.   This week you should find what they are reading about in their Reading Section of their binders.   We will also be learning a strategy called a defining format.   It is supposed to be a thinking map that prepares students to write about their scientific discoveries.

Literature books should be finished this week and by Next Monday all their literature work should be turned in.

The group will work on a presentation for the class about their book.

Thank you,
