March 10, 2008
Dear Families,
I hope that March is treating you well.
This morning everyone seems a bit tired & we have many absences.
I am thinking the wet weather and the time change may be pulling folks down a bit.
In anycase I have been out of touch so here is an update of what we are doing these days.
In Math we are continuing to do problem solving at least 3 days a week- first thing in the morning.
This should be good WASL prep and also good life skills.
In social studies we are continuing our studies of colonial times the revolution.
This is also part of our reading work.
There are 2 current literature books and your student may be reading either
Number the Stars or
The Breadwinner.
If they are not in one of those books they are preparing for the global reading challenge by reading more books.
The big day is next Monday!
It should be fun.
In math we are studying division & students should be working on the partial quotient strategy for division.
It is a new strategy
to me as well, but it makes mathematical sense if you stop to ponder it.
This week we will also do a quick 2 day review of measuring angles. This curriculum truly spirals around.
The historical fiction pieces were due today.
But, I will accept them for credit until Thursday.
Report cards will go home next Monday.
This week students will have a prompt and they will go through the writing process on their own with a final draft due on Friday.
Thanks for all of your support of last week’s jog a thon!
Sincerely,
Ms. Laura Grow
