The Program: Our enrichment program is a vital extension of the family, school and community. We offer guidance, incentives, and materials for growth in a nurturing atmostphere. We focus on successful peer relations and peaceful conflict resolution. We try to meet the needs of both child and
family.

First B.A.S.E. celebrates diversity and offers equal oppor tunit y to all. The children can relax, make friends, do homework , relate with caring adults one -on-one, and have fun! In addition to FIRST B.A.S.E.’s activites, the children also may par ticipate in ORCA’s programs, such as SCATS, Chess Club and Power ful Schools classes.

Locations: First B.A.S.E. at ORCA is located in Orca at Whitworth School. In the Columbia City neighborhood.

Hours: Before & After school care for children ages 5-12
7:00 am - 9:00 am
3:10 pm - 6:00 pm

Full Day Prgrams: First B.A.S.E offers full-day programs during winter and spring breaks and on teacher in-service days, and also provides care during parent-teacher conferences and other early dismissals. This is contingent on sufficent enrollment.

Sign in & Out: All Children must be signed in and out by a parent, guardian or authorized adult. A fee is charged for late pickup.

Nutrition: First B.A.S.E. serves afternoon snacks from 3:30 - 4:00 pm. Parents provide sack lunches for their children during full- day programs. We offer a Vegetarian menu.

Eligibility: First B.A.S.E. is open to all children, not just to those who attend O R C A . Parents can arrange bus transporation through the Seattle Public Schools’ Transportation Office.

Sibling Discount: Families receive a 5% discount from their total monthly tuition when two or more children are enrolled in the program.

Extra Hours: $6.00/hour (one hour min.) will be charged for care which is in addition to the child’s regular monthly enrollment. Additional charges apply on in-service days/school vacations. Families who receive subsidies will be charged the maximum program fees and are not eligible for FIRST B.A.S.E. discounts.

Occasional Care: If space is available, FIRST B.A.S.E. may be able to provide care for children who are not currently enrolled. The charge is $6.00/hour per child (one hour minimum).

Note: Requests for care must be made and approved at least 24 hours in advance.

Tution Assistance: Eligible families may apply for partial or full subsidies from the following agencies:

History: Organized by ORCA parents in 1992, FIRST B.A.S.E. is staffed by qualified childcare specialists and is licensed by the State of Washington to care for 72 children. Parents and Guardians serve on our policy-making board, and are welcomed as volunteers to assist in the program, raise funds, provide skills and services, and make special projects happen.
