Try Google Directory, it's a slightly safer way to let kids search the web. Google Directory is part nof the the Open Directory project, which has 20,000 volunteer editors reviewing websites and classifying them by topic. The above link is contains sites appropriate for Kids & Teens. It's not too hard to wander out of the directory though so parent supervision is still recommended.
